Updated - My Hair Care Routine!

I've been paying close attention to my hair in recent weeks - I had my hair lightened a bit which of course can compromise the condition of your hair. I really love the lighter bits through my hair, I feel like it gives it so much depth and it looks so different  to how it was before (to me, anyway!).

I've been trying out the new John Frieda Luxurious Volume shampoo and conditioner*, and so far I really like them. I love the smell of these! It sounds strange but I like using shampoos which are "clear", I think they are probably the best to use on your hair. I read somewhere a long time ago that shampoos which have colour have more chemicals in them, so that's why I like clear ones. Also, I really like shampoos and conditioners which come in tubes like these. They are just so much easier to use while in the shower. I do like to try a shampoo and conditioner for a good couple of months, so perhaps I will do a full review on these when I have tried them properly.

So, when my hair is wet I so desperately need my Mane n' Tail Detangler! My hair gets super super tatty and the only thing that remedies that is this Detangler. It's probably the best hair product I have ever used! I have also tried their shampoos and conditioners (and used them on my dog too!) and they are excellent as well!

I still use the Schwartzkopf Colour Freeze heat protector. I squeeze out a little blob, rub my hands together and smooth it through my hair. It's a cream, with  a very light texture and it doesn't leave any sticky residue or anything in my hair.

I have been curling my hair a lot lately with my Remington Pearl Curling Wand. I have worked out a system where I can curl my hair with it in about 5 minutes. I just wrap huge sections of my hair around the wand, and I get a loose, wavy tousled effect like in the photo above.

My hairdresser recommended this L'Oreal Wild Stylers Next Day Hair spray. I think if you are wearing your hair curly, this will compliment it perfectly. It's kind of a cross between dry shampoo and volumising dust. I spray it in the mid lengths and ends of my hair, and brush through my hair with my fingers. I have heard that other texturising sprays like this can make the hair feel sticky or crunchy, but this one most definitely does not! It creates so much volume when I wear my hair curly, and leaves just enough texture so that you could easily style your hair into an up-do.

Next on my wish list is a L'Oreal Steam Pod! I want one so badly, it is amazing for straightening and curling the hair, and it is probably the heated hair tool which is actually kindest to the hair, using steam rather than ceramic plates.

What I've bought this week..

So... I am trying to be good and seriously cut down on the amount of cosmetics I buy. But as you know, it's kind of difficult and I am still so eager to try out new products and different things.

Browsing online is a dangerous thing for my bank cards. Sometimes I do pick up a few bargains. This week I was especially lucky on ebay, which is unusual for me - I won 2 auctions! I got a MAC palette, Escada Cherry in the Air perfume and when I was in town, I got the Mane n'Tail Detangler!

I had this notion of buying a MAC palette and starting to fill it up gradually over time with lovely eyeshadows. I got this "old style" palette on ebay for £10.50. I don't really like the new style palettes with the clear lid, so I was delighted with this. I depotted my only two MAC eyeshadows and maybe someday, one day, it will all be filled with 15 shadows! My two shadows are Trax and Gleam. I have been looking online at all the gorgeous MAC eyeshadows available. It's quite overwhelming because there are so many! I would find it hard narrowing it down to 15! But I think I will try and buy at least one a month to try and fill up my palette.

Another ebay bargain. I managed to get this perfume for £10.00. I fell in love with this perfume last summer and I used to spray it liberally on myself every time I was in Debenhams. However I can't really justify buying perfume for myself... I just don't really do it, I would prefer receiving perfume as a present! But I spotted this bottle on ebay. It is the most fabulous, light scent for Spring time. I cannot even describe this scent, it is nice and sweet but not a teenagery scent, if you know what I mean. I just cannot get over how nice it is and I am delighted with it! I actually was in Debenhams today and noticed that they didn't have Cherry in the Air - I know it was a limited edition perfume. All the Escada perfumes are lovely actually, and they all just remind me of Spring/Summer! :)

My local chemist started stocking Mane n' Tail, and I have heard nothing but rave reviews about the brand! Because I have found a shampoo which finally works for me (Kerastase Bain Exfoliant) I am very reluctant to try new shampoos. But I picked up the Detangler, because I have serious problems with my hair being tatty all the time. I had been using a Schwartzkopf detangling spray for children but it wasn't really doing anything for me. Well, I used the Mane n' Tail for the first time lastnight and all i can say is - WOW! I sprayed it through my hair when wet and was able to literally glide my hairbrush through, no problems. Even today, my hair feels a lot smoother and sleeker than normal, and when I got a big tat in my hair from wearing a coat and scarf, I was able to brush it out so easily! I can safely say I think this product will be considered a "life changing" product for me! I'll see how I get on with it over the coming weeks, but first impressions are incredible!

Hair Care!

This is my first hair care post! I thought it might be fun to write about how I look after it and what products I use. I'll talk a little about my hair first. My hair is quite long and thick. I get it coloured every 5-6 weeks in the salon (I really don't know what colour they use though! It is pure copper though). I find my hair grows very quickly and I hate my roots (and now greys!) showing! My hair gets greasy quite quickly, I wash my hair every 3 days, which is amazing now since I used to wash it every evening! With every wash my hair colour fades so I really have tried to reduce washing as much as I can.
Here are the products I use...

Now I am a low maintenance kind of girl, and I really don't use many hair products. I don't style my hair very often, when I wash my hair, I will blow dry it and straighten it usually, and that will be it until the next time I wash!

I use Kerastase Bain Exfoliant Purifiant shampoo always. It is my holy grail shampoo. I know it is a little expensive at around £15.00 per bottle, but it really is the only thing that works for me. As much as I love my hair colour, dying my hair has made my scalp unbelievably dry and have really bad dandruff too. It was highly embarrassing for me and I was so self conscious about it. After trying every single anti-dandruff shampoo under the sun, my hairdresser recommended this to me and I have never looked back. The shampoo has little exfoliating beads in it, and really works incredibly well to combat dandruff. If I stop using this, my dandruff will just come straight back. It's so effective for me. If you have dry scalp or dandruff issues I highly recommend you check this out!

I use a lot of conditioner, so I can't really afford to buy an expensive conditioner. I actually got this Argan Oil conditioner in the pound shop. If I didn't use plenty of conditioner, my hair would be quite flyaway which I hate! I stick plenty of this conditioner on the ends and really work it through my hair and rinse out. It's quite a good conditioner which is surprising since it was so cheap. It smells really good too!

I discovered this Schwarzkopf thermo protect cream on BeautyBay. I thought it was perfect for me as it is designed for coloured hair too. It is absolutely amazing! The smell is just indescribable, so nice and fruity. I put this through my wet hair before drying, and I have to say, my hair feels so much more healthier since I started using it. I never really paid attention to heat protecting products before - oops! Now I really want to make the effort. I know it's called "Colour Freeze" but it didn't really do much to retain my colour at all. Doesn't matter, I still really like this cream.

Ahh my pink Tangle Teezer. I have a love/hate relationship with this. I read so many amazing reviews about these hairbrushes, I had to get one for myself. I disposed of my 10 year old hairbrush (ugh!) and finally picked up a Tangle Teezer for myself. My hair is so long, I don't have any layers cut it so it's all one length and it tends to get tatty kind of quickly. I have to say I really have to work with this hairbrush. It doesn't actually get through the tats as well as I imagined it would. I feel like the brush doesn't actually get through my whole hair. I want to love this brush so much, I really adore the shape of it and the design, and I am growing to like it. It just wasn't love at first sight (or brush!)
